Small details make me get out of bed every morning… the beauty of life is in small details!

  • What makes you get out of bed every morning? Small details that make my day: the sun, a new activity… The beauty of life is in small details, not in big events.
  • What has been your most professional achievement? It is not about an isolated event but mostly the sum of 27 years of experience within the Life Sciences Industry. Being able to enjoy the path, with its ups and downs, it´s the real success.
  • What has been the biggest professional crisis you have suffered? I need to go back to 2012 when my role as “National Sales Mgr” was going to disappear. At the beginning I was in shock, but we took this situation as an opportunity to evolve as an organization, building the Market Access department from scratch.
  • What would you do differently if you could start again? This is a very interesting question that I´ve regularly used to reflect during my life. Being honest, I would not change anything since if I do, even a minimum piece, I would not be who I am today.
  • What are you currently learning? Curiosity is one of my innate strengths and it has been helping me to continue learning on a daily basis. The interaction between technology and the Life Sciences industry attracts me a lot, and this is the field I´m focusing on.
  • Graduated in biology and working on the Pharma Industry. What you would say to young girls to choose a STEM career? The Life Sciences industry is very purposeful due to the impact on patients. My recommendation would be more about empowering girls to have a dream, to follow their heart. It is true that to have a plan for your career is important but I´ve learn that sometimes you need to flow with the moment. We must learn how to improvise to achieve the real success.

I try to understand the strengths and motivation of the individuals of my team, to build a stronger collective and promote the collaboration between them

  • How would you define yourself as a leader? There is one simple rule for me: act as you would like them to act with you. But there is a small consideration to be taken: it is crucial to practice empathy and put yourself on the others´ shoes to understand what they need; therefore, you can act according to their needs.
  • What is the primary characteristic of a leader? I often say that “the leader is the key to start the car”. If you are not able to connect with and within the team, you will not be successful as a leader.
  • What are you doing, or have you done to inspire your team? I use the learnings and messages of one of my favourite movies “The best exotic Marigold Hotel”: “everything will be all right in the end… if it´s not all right then it´s not yet the end”. The only failure is not trying. I try to understand the strengths and motivation of the individuals of my team, to build a stronger collective and promote the collaboration between them.
  • Tell me a Leader who was positively influenced you. Why? I like to see the good side of every leader that I´ve found in both, personal and professionally. The common denominator is that all of them gave me the space needed to experiment and learn, in addition they helped me to build my thinking process and to question myself in every situation
  • More than 10 years in leadership positions; What you will say to empower other women to jump into leadership roles? Female leadership is crucial due to our innate capabilities linked to soft skills. Despite this fact, leadership has nothing to do with gender, leadership is to put people first, and it can be done by anyone, regardless of the gender. The important is to find the diversity on leadership positions within an organization.

Always doing the right things make you feel much better

  • What does work in the Life Sciences industry mean to you? Working on the Life Sciences Industry is being close to patients, health professional, public administration… and this combination is so powerful! If you want to succeed, you must be empathetic and put yourself on the others´ shoes. Only by doing this, you will find the right solution for our bigger purpose: improve patients´ life.
  • What would you like to do if you were not what you are today? I don´t know exactly what I would be doing if I was not where I´m today, but I know that it would be something around people… If I were from the new generations, I would have a role dealing with social media, that´s for sure!
  • What legacy do you want to leave in this world? Being myself, being authentic… with the good and bad things.
  • What are you doing to get it done? Always doing the right thing, even when it can be seen as unpopular decision. Doing the right thing helps you to feel you much better.
  • Finally, What would be your recommendation for young talents who are starting their career? Always believe in yourself, because if you don´t believe, then who will do? How will you achieve your goals?

Thank you so much Carmen for your time and collaboration on this Project!
